Final Horror Trailer Project

Here is our final 'infliction' trailer:







Please note: as we had to massively reduce our video size in order to upload it to blogger, we have had to compromise the quality of filming, as the maximum blogger upload quantity is 100MB.


To support our film trailer, I also created a film magazine cover and a poster advertising our film, for my ancillary tasks.

How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

As last year my blog was too text heavy, for my evaluation this year I have decided to use a range different medias, in order to make it more creative and appealing.

To answer this section of the evaluation, we decided to film our group discussion and also included individual piece to cameras, to discuss our own roles within creating our horror trailer.









However, one of the major limitations of using blogger was that I was only able to upload videos 100MB, and therefore I had to reduce the size of our video, to upload it. This means we have had to compromise the quality of our video.

What have you learnt from audience feedback?

Audience feedback is a necessity for any film producer, as it is a key way to gather opinions from your target audience, in order to maximise profits. Based on our initial research, we found that the most popular age group to view a horror film was 15 – 25 year olds, and therefore decided that this would be our target audience. We created a questionnaire before starting our project as this would allow us to appeal to our audience, as we could include things that they wanted to see.

Once our film was completed, we created a hybrid questionnaire and handed it out to a large sample of our target audience during the screening of our trailer, as we felt it would largely benefit us to gather feedback from our audience. We decided on this specific type of questionnaire as responses would not be too structured, yet the data would still be reasonably easy for us to handle.

I feel that audience feedback has been very beneficial to us, as it has allowed us to gather feedback from our target audience. This has also helped us in the evaluation stages as we have been able to discuss how successful our project has been. It has also allowed us to change anything which our target audience were not particularly impressed with.

Magazine cover

As the second part of my ancillary task I have to create a film magazine cover, so I decided to analyse existing products to find conventions. The purpose of a film magazine is to promote upcoming films, usually reviewing them to inform audiences whether they are worth going to see or not.



After analysing exsiting magazines, I decided to draw a flat plan for my magazine cover. I decided to use a similar layout to 'Total Film'.

Title Font

To decide on which font we wanted to use for our film title, we created a sample of ten various fonts and then showed it to 50 of our target audience. This allowed us to see what one was the most eye catching, suitable and interesting.


Results



  • Our results showed that the most popular font was number 3, receiving over 40% of the vote.

  • Most said that numbers 6 and 7 was too difficult to read, and therefore recommended that we didn't use it.

  • All 50 of our sample liked the colour scheme we chose, and believe it is fitting to the genre of our trailer.

Music choice

Since we've began editing the disequalibrium section of our trailer, we've discovered that our previous music choice of 'Hysteria' by Muse no longer fits with our film clips. After searching for other music, we've decided that 'Space Dementia', also by Muse, fits perfectly with our equalibrium and disequalibrium sections and therefore this is our new song choice.



We chose to shorten the song as originally it is 6 minutes 25 seconds, which is obviously far too long for our trailer.

Problems

  • We've recently been trying to complete our filming, however we are facing large problems due to the weather and continuity.
  • Since all of our filming is outdoors snow, wind and rain has stopped us from filming quite a lot because its too cold to film in, or the weather doesn't fit in with the rest of our film.
  • Also, the trees where we've filmed a large proportion of our trailer have been cut down, so we've been out looking for a similar spot to continue filming our final scenes.

Target Audience


  • Our reseach has proved that 15 to 25 year olds are the most popular age group to visit the cinema.
